TL;DR

  • Accuracy: Oura has independent validation (HRV agreement with ECG of 0.99 for Ring 4); RingConn's accuracy data come from company-co-authored conference papers.[1][5]
  • Battery: RingConn Gen 3 up to 14 days and Gen 2 10-12 days, versus 6-9 days for Oura Ring 5.[7][9]
  • Cost: RingConn from $199 with no subscription; Oura adds $69.99 a year in the U.S.[7][11]
  • Pick: Oura if validated HRV and sleep data matter most; RingConn for longer battery and no fees.

Is RingConn better than Oura? It is cheaper to own and lasts longer per charge, but Oura has the stronger accuracy evidence. RingConn sells its rings from $199 to $349 with no subscription and up to 14 days of battery,[7] while Oura charges a membership on top of the ring; in independent tests against ECG, Oura's rings tracked overnight HRV and resting heart rate almost exactly.[1][11] No independent study has yet compared the two directly.

Oura's store showed only euro pricing to our check, so the U.S. price of Oura Ring 5 is not confirmed here. Over two years, the U.S. membership adds $139.98 to whichever Oura ring you buy;[11] RingConn's price is the total cost.

Is Oura more accurate than RingConn?

Oura has the better evidence, not proven better accuracy. In an independent study of 13 adults over 536 nights, Oura Ring 4 matched ECG for overnight HRV with a concordance coefficient of 0.99 and for resting heart rate at 0.98, with an average error under 2%; Oura Gen 3 and Ring 4 were the most accurate of the five devices tested.[1] Against polysomnography in 96 participants, Oura Gen 3 detected sleep with 94.4% sensitivity but identified wake only 73-75% of the time; that study's authors reported financial support from Oura.[2] An independent 2026 study found Oura underestimated total sleep by about 75 minutes in adults aged 56-80.[3]

RingConn's evidence is thinner. A 2024 conference paper using data collected by RingConn and a Shanghai hospital reported a mean absolute error of 2.27 bpm for sleeping heart rate, 0.38% for blood oxygen and 12.25 minutes for total sleep time against polysomnography; RingConn employees are among the authors.[5] No independent ECG study of RingConn's HRV readings has been published.

How good is RingConn's sleep apnea detection?

Promising for severe apnea, unproven for mild apnea. In a 58-person feasibility study with a RingConn co-author, the ring's apnea-hypopnea index correlated with polysomnography at r = 0.93.[6] A 2026 review of 11 finger-worn devices reported RingConn accuracies of 0.81-0.88 across apnea thresholds, and concluded that rings can triage severe sleep apnea but should not replace a sleep study for mild cases or detailed sleep staging.[4] RingConn states its rings are not medical devices.[7] If you snore heavily or feel unrefreshed, see a doctor about a sleep test.

Which should you buy?

  • Choose Oura if you train by HRV or resting heart rate and want the most validated numbers. The Oura accuracy review covers the studies in detail.
  • Choose RingConn if you want two weeks between charges, no subscription, or the lowest price; the Gen 2 Air costs $199 but drops sleep apnea monitoring.[7]
  • Either way, use trends rather than single nights. Check your resting heart rate against population norms with the Resting Heart Rate Calculator, and turn HRV readings into training decisions with the HRV deload trigger.

Hedge. The Oura validation was done on Ring 3 and Ring 4; Oura Ring 5 and RingConn Gen 3 have no independent accuracy study yet. Prices change often; check the maker's site before buying.

Frequently asked questions

Is RingConn as accurate as Oura?

Unknown, because no independent study has tested them side by side. Oura has independent ECG and polysomnography validation;[1][2] RingConn's published accuracy figures come from conference papers co-authored by RingConn staff.[5][6]

Does RingConn need a subscription?

No. RingConn lists all its rings with no subscription fee.[7] Oura charges $5.99 a month or $69.99 a year for U.S. members (€5.99 or €69.99 in the EU) on top of the ring.[11]

Which smart ring has the longest battery life, RingConn or Oura?

RingConn. The Gen 3 is rated up to 14 days and the Gen 2 10-12 days, against 6-9 days for Oura Ring 5 and 5-8 days for Oura Ring 4.[7][9][10]

Can RingConn detect sleep apnea?

RingConn Gen 2 and Gen 3 offer sleep apnea pattern insights, but RingConn states its rings are not medical devices.[7] In the published studies, finger-worn devices were most accurate for severe apnea; a review concluded they can triage severe cases but should not replace a sleep study.[4]
